Mercari Fee Calculator

A flat 10% — but charged on more than you might think.

Short answer

Mercari charges a flat 10% selling fee on every completed sale, calculated on the item price plus whatever shipping the buyer pays. There is no separate seller-side payment processing fee — Mercari removed it in 2025 — and no listing fee. On a $50 sale with $8 buyer-paid shipping, the fee base is $58.00 and the fee is $5.80. Buyers pay their own Buyer Protection fee, which does not reduce your payout.

The fee base includes buyer-paid shipping

Most sellers assume that charging for shipping is fee-neutral. On Mercari it is not. The 10% is calculated on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays.

On a $47.50 item with $7.99 of buyer-paid shipping, the fee is $5.55. Ship the same item for free and the fee drops to $4.75 — you save $0.80 in fees but pay the label yourself. That trade-off has to be run both ways before you list.

What buyers pay on top

Mercari charges the buyer a Buyer Protection fee of around 3.6% of the item price, added at checkout. It is a buyer-side cost and never touches your payout, but it does raise the total a buyer sees against your asking price — which matters for conversion.

Withdrawals, corrections and cancellations

Standard bank transfers are free, with one request per day. Instant Pay to a debit card costs a flat fee, so sellers who do not need same-day cash usually skip it.

Two other charges are easy to forget: if the actual parcel weight exceeds the label you bought, a shipping correction fee applies; and cancelling a sale after it completes can carry a cancellation fee of up to 5%, capped.

Assumptions

  • US Mercari, USD. New and updated listings — older listings created under previous fee structures may behave differently until edited.
  • No seller-side payment processing fee is modelled, matching Mercari's current published schedule.
  • Instant Pay, label weight corrections and cancellation fees are excluded; they are listed as separate costs rather than marketplace fees.

A small sale where you absorb postage. The fee is smaller, but the label cost comes straight out of the payout.

Common mistakes

Assuming buyer-paid shipping is fee-neutral

It is not. The 10% is charged on the shipping too, which adds roughly half a dollar to a dollar per shipped order at typical label prices.

Still subtracting a payment processing fee

Mercari removed the seller-side processing fee in January 2025. Sellers using older spreadsheets are overestimating their costs and may be underpricing.

Using Instant Pay for every payout

It carries a flat fee per cash-out. On low-value inventory those add up faster than sellers expect.

Guessing the parcel weight

A weight correction fee applies when the parcel exceeds the label you bought. Weigh before you list, not at the counter.

Forgetting the cancellation fee

Cancelling after a sale completes can carry a fee of up to 5% of the item price, capped at $25.
